T9-1-1 Terms and Conditions

Bell MTS’s standard Terms and Conditions apply in addition to those listed below.

The Text with 9-1-1 (“T9-1-1”) service is only available in geographic areas of Canada that have both:

  • wireless coverage; and
  • are subscribed to the Enhanced 9-1-1 (“E9-1-1”) service.

In the event there is no wireless coverage in an area, or if there is wireless coverage but the local municipality is not subscribed to E9-1-1 service, the T9-1-1 service will not be available. Accordingly, Bell MTS is not responsible for, without limitation, any damage, loss or injury that may result from a T9-1-1 call made in these areas.

The T9-1-1 service is for use only in emergency situations by only those who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing or Speech Impaired and registered for this service.

Use T9-1-1 by dialing the digits “9-1-1” on your mobile wireless device in those wireless coverage areas with E9-1-1 service, and wait for a response via text message before engaging in text correspondence. T9-1-1 should be used only in EMERGENCY situations when police, fire or medical assistance is required. It is not to be used for non-emergencies.

YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR: MAINTAINING THE ACCURACY OF THE INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE TO Bell MTS WHEN YOU REGISTERED FOR T9-1-1 AND ENSURING YOUR MOBILE WIRELESS DEVICE IS COMPATIBLE WITH THIS SERVICE.

Urgent T9-1-1 messages sent via “SMS” text message will not be received or delivered if you are in an area without wireless coverage, or in an area that has not subscribed to E9-1-1 service, or if sufficient network capacity is unavailable at a particular time. Even within a wireless coverage area, factors beyond the control of the 9-1-1 service provider and the wireless service provider may interfere with the text message delivery. Some factors that may affect delivery of your text message include: your mobile wireless device, the terrain, your proximity to buildings, foliage, and weather.

If your device is password protected, you must ensure you have entered your password and your phone is in a ready state to make a call. Upon dialing 9-1-1, you should monitor the signal strength of your device to ensure you are in an adequate coverage area. Please wait for a text reply before engaging in text messaging with the call taker. Bell MTS cannot guarantee that messages are delivered or received in a timely manner.

A list of mobile wireless devices compatible with this service can be found at www.bellmts.ca/t911. Bell MTS cannot be held responsible for any failure of this service in the event your mobile wireless device is not on the list identified above or if it was obtained from a source other than Bell MTS.

Bell MTS cannot be held responsible or liable for any undelivered text messages, incompatible devices, calls unanswered or for any acts or omissions as a result of your use of this service.
